Viva Las Vegas
About now all the Oregon fans have probably finished crying over their lose to BYU. Many of them are probably wondering to themselves why such a wonderful school like BYU could win them. Well their are certain factors that I am sure they haven't seen. So just in case any Oregon fans read my blog I will set these factors straight for them. The first factor is that of course BYU was going to win, they are just the better school, and better team. But know I will get into the more techniqual factors. As I was at the game, and watch the few plays that Oregon made I realized that the only person who really moved the team forward was the Quarterback. Besides all the times that he was sacked it seems he was always running forward with the ball giving them their few first downs. I have only been alive for sixteen years, but in these years one thing that I have learned is that football is a team sport not a one man show. Another thing that I am sure affected the Oregon players was their lack of fans. The stadium was practically filled with all BYU fans. But we can't blame the lack of Oregan fans on their lose. While Oregon played a one man game, BYU had many outstanding players. Some of these players include John Beck, Johny Harline, Tonga, Matt Alan(even though he dropped a couple of balls in the end he pulled through), and my personal favorite Curtis Brown. I could go on all night talking about how amazing BYU is but Christmas eve is tomorrow, and I have no desire to do any more school work until after Christmas. Wait one more thing how could anyone with a duck as a mascot win anything.

Ipods
Everywhere I go I see people walking around with ipod earphones in their ears. It seems like for some people they never come out like they are glued in there. I think it is crazy when I see kids at school walking around with them between classes. It doesn't even take that long to get from class to class, and they probably don't even get to listen to a full song. Plus we go to school to learn not to listen to music. So why have ipods become so popular in the school setting? One reason I believe that ipods are seen in high school is people don't like silence or to be alone. When you listen to music you have constant noise in your head, and when you walking down the hallway by yourself you don't feel as lonely. Also some kids don't want to talk to people so they put their earphones in and tune out the rest of the world. The number one reason though people listen to their ipods is to look cool. It has become such a popular trend, that when people listen to their ipods they think that they are so wonderful. I on the other hand think it is stupid. I have an ipod but you don't see me walking around the hall with it. There is no need. All they do is distract and create excuses for student to shut out the world, and all that is going on around them. I think ipods are a great invention, and I absolutely love mine. I just don't think they are appropriate for school.

Monday
Every Sunday night I go to bed dreading the day that is soon to come. I am almost sure that it is not just me who dreads Mondays. What makes Monday such a dreadful day to many people? The first thing that comes to my mind is that Monday means that we have to get on with life, and become responsible people again. Because over the weekends it is the time to relax and have fun. But Monday means all that has to stop and you have to wait five more days to relax. I don't think Mondays would be half as bad if there wasn't school or work. It is nice to have Mondays where there is no school, and it is just another weekend day (if that makes sense). I don't dread those days at all. It is only the days I have to go and do something important, and somewhat boring. Even as I type this I am becoming depressed because I know tomorrow is Monday, and I will actually have to get out of bed and do something with my life. (I guess that can be a good thing) Mondays are dreaded because it forces people to have come back to reality and face the challenges that a new day brings

Bed Time
As I get older I don't seem to have the same bedtime as when I was younger. Actually I don't have a bed time at all. The decision to go to bed is totally up to me. When we are younger why do our parents give us bedtimes? Most kids when they are really young fall asleep anyways. I think that bedtimes are given in order to get the children out of the way so the parents have some peaceful time. Really, if there kids don't have school why do they need to be to bed around eight or nine. The later you but them to bed the later they get up. This sounds a lot better to me. I think that older kids as well as younger kids should have a bed time. It is shown that teenagers who get more sleep do better in school. So all students should have a required bedtime, so they are able to perform at their top level. However, this is not possible for some students due to homework, and work. I think it would be better for all of society to have a bedtime. This would decrease car accidents due to drowsiness, and people would have more energy throughout the day. Bedtime is good for everyone not just little kids. Speaking of bed times, it is way past mine. Good Night!

Home Makeover
A strange craz has hit America. It is home makeover shows. These shows range from Trading Spaces to Extreme Home Makeover. Why has the world be so addicted to these types of shows. As I watch these shows I wish that I could do all these things that the designers do. But of course I don't have the funds for the type of projects they do. So instead I watch the shows so my desires are some what full filled. This might not make sense but for me it does. These makeover shows create and environment that most people will never experience. So instead they watch these shows, and dream of all the home makeover possibilities for there home. Also people like to see pretty, nice, new things. So they turn on the TV to watch ugly things made beautiful. It seems strange that these shows have made such an impact on the world. But it has and as long as there are ugly rooms in the world they will continue to be on TV.

Pink
A while a go my little cousins favorite color was pink. And every time we talked about it his dad would get all upset, because aperentely pink is a girly color, and he didn't want his son to be girly. But why is it that pink is considered a girl color, and why do some men think it is bad to like pink? I see nothing wrong with guys who like the color pink. It doesn't make them any less manly. Pink is not really that girly of a color. It is just that society has labeled it a color made just for girls. But really what makes a color like blue or green more masculine then pink. It doesn't really make any sense. What makes pink a girly color is the preconceptions that were but into our heads when we were little. Take my cousin for example when he was younger he didn't see anything wrong with the color pink it was just another color. As he has grown up though he has completely flipped. He doesn't like pink because it is a girly color, and to be a boy he can't like pink. If his father wouldn't have discouraged him, or if others wouldn't have told him that pink was a girl color he would still like it. But he was influenced by what others think, and this has caused him to change his mind. Society puts ideas into our minds, and tries to change the way we think. We shouldn't give in. We should all like things because we can, and not let anyone else change our minds for us. Pinks isn't really a girly color it is just like blue and green. And it shouldn't matter if any guy likes it. Those who believe pink is a girly color and wont wear it because of that our wrong and should broaden their horizons. Plus what is wrong with being girly. When any guy says that pink is a girly color, and that they can't wear it I find it very offending. What makes being a guy better than being a girl. But that is another blog for another day.

Happy Birthday, Wow you are getting OLD
Today was my older sisters Birthday. As I was talking to her I kept telling her that she was getting old. This is true in any case. On your birthday you are automatically one year older. In the primary song it talks about being one year older and wiser too, for some people the whole wiser thing isn't true. As I thought about this I decided to write my blog on it. Why do people celebrate birthdays? Birthdays just mean that they are getting OLD. In the world today people try to make themselves look younger and dread getting older. But on birthdays we celebrate eat ice cream and cake, and buy each other presents. But in reality we should dress in black and morn the whole idea of getting older. I guess some people might say that we celebrate birthdays to celebrate that person being born and coming into the world. I that is a reasonable explanation, but it still means that you are getting old. And most people don't want to get old. So there is no need to celebrate birthdays. We should forget about them and deny the one year older thing.

Halloween
The holiday Halloween seems like such a stupid holiday. Really why do we celebrate it and what is the meaning behind it. The holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas have a defenent meaning and reason why we celebrate them. But where does Halloween come from. People dress up like something they are not and then go around collecting candy. It just sounds like greed to me. There isn't any real reason why we celebrate it. It seems more these days that people are celebrating Halloween by in a way celebrating evil spirits. People go to see movies that have all these dead evil spirits. It just doesn't seem right to me. In Mexico and other Hispanic countries Halloween is called the day of the dead. There they celebrate those that have passed on. The eat meals at the graves, and sing and dance. To them it is not about witches and evil spirits. It is about remembering those who have died. So why do Americans think Halloween is this holiday to dress up as witches, and goblins. It really doesn't make any sense. And I think it is a stupid holiday, and the true meaning(what ever it was) has been twisted into something that it is not.

Why Drugs?
This week at school has been red ribbon week. At the assemby I saw terrifying images if what drugs can do to the body. It was eye opening, but for the most part I knew all that the drugs could do. It made me sad to think that all these people could do such terrible things to their bodies. The thing that made me really sad was most the kids who do drugs I knew would pay no attention to the assembly. This realization made me ask the question why after learning that drugs are bad for you do they do the drugs? They have to know that drugs are bad for them. They must feel the side affects of the drugs. But the only thing that they choose to remember is the high they get. They also must thing that it will never get that bad for them, and that they aren't addicted to the drugs. Also that they are in control. But in reality the drugs begin to control them, and their lifes are consumed by the drugs. It is really sad, that they think that there is nothing wrong and that they are only hurting themselves. But in reality they are hurting all those around them. I wish that they could realize what they are doing to themselves.
It is also sad that many people use drugs to escape their lifes.
After a red ribbon week like this past week it is hard for me to imagine anyone choosing to do drugs. But people use them because they don't believe that it will hurt them. But in reality it destroyes thier lifes. It isn't a fast destruction it is slow and painful.

Who should I ask to the dance, and how
After I decided to go to Sadie Hawkins I needed a creative way to ask my soon to be date to the dance. I kept thinking, and asking all shorts of people for an idea to ask this certain boy. So many people had different, crazy ideas. This made me wonder why do we use creative ways to ask people to school dances? The alternitive for asking someone creativly to a dance is actually going up to the person. For lots of people this situation can be very, very, awkward. So most people try to avoid it, and thus creative, non-contact asking ideas are created. If I had to ask my date in person to the dance I would probably not have asked him at all. I would have felt really stupid asking him, because what if he said no or already had a date it would be a sad, embarresing moment. So I didn't ask him face to face I used and idea where I wouldn't have to come into any contact at all with him. Not only do students use creative ideas to ask people to dances, because they want avoid contact, but because it can be lots of fun. It is really fun to recieve something on your doorstep from a person of the opposite gender then have to figure out who that person is. It adds a totally different feel to the date and dance in general. If someone uses a fun way to ask you out it mostly means that they just want to have a fun time at the dance, at it isn't usually a serious date.
Most high school students use creative ideas to ask others out, because it can be lots of fun and a way to avoid an awkward situation. They come up with fun, stupid ideas in order not to feel stupid.

That was Scary
I have recently visited the corn maze at Thanksgiving Point. There I went through the basic corn maze then I went through the haunted one. I was so scared at first that my friend and I had to enlist her little brothers to go through with us. I was so scared at first to go in, that I didn't even want to go in. But as I went through the haunted maze I realized that they couldn't hurt me, and if they did I could sue them. This realizitation didn't make the maze scary at all. But the accerleration and adrenilane of being scared was so much fun, that I would have gone through the maze a couple of times. This made me ask the question why do people like to be scared? All the people at Thanksgiving Point paid money just so they could get scared, but why would they do this? When I was scared the adrenilane was so strong that it made it kind of fun. It was a scary experience, but it was also a fun experience. People like to be scared, because people like to feel that sensation of fear. Fear can be a scary thing, but when you know you can't get hurt it can be lots of fun. Another reason why people like to be scared is, because it feels good to be able to scream and let all of your feelings out. Just think most guys don't really show fear, but haunted places give them an excuse to let all their feelings out. An example of this was my friends brothers. They act tought, and want to be strong guys. As we went through the maze they were terrified, and hiding behind their sister the whole time. It was actually pretty funny, because I thought that they wouldn't get scared. Being scared can be frightening, but at the same time it can be an amazing adrenilane rush.

Why diet?
Why is the world so obsessed with diets? It seems every magizine I see has some fast way to tone your body or lose weight. These things are a joke. Most of the diets are unhealthy, and will not last. Almost every tv show I watch the women are obsessed with their figure. This causes the rest of the world to believe the same thing. People idealize the characters on tv, and some will do anything to look like them. This might include those silly diets that are everywhere. It is really sad and the world should change their image of themselves. We are all different, and where meant to be different.

Skiing vs. Snowboarding
Durring the winter season the two main popular winter sports are skiing and snowboarding. For most people one is better than the other. It is a big deal to lots of students. Most kids I know think that snowboarding is cooler, and more fun than skiing. But I am here to proof them wrong. I have been skiing since the age of five. I have never really actually snowboarded, but I like to watch and analyze it. It is so weird to me why so many people think that it is better than skiing. When you ski you have to control two sticks strapped to your feet and two poles. It can be hard to get all four things to go in the right direction, and look good doing it. With a snowboard there is only one board to control. Also skiers can go on a wider variety of terrian. For example snowboarders can't really go down a hill with moggles. To me if you can't go down moggles there is no point to winter sports. It also seems that skiers can perform a wider variety of tricks on halfpipes and jumps. Skiing and boarding both are fun adventerous winter activites, but there is no doubt that skiing is the better sport. Skiing brings such a wonderful sense of freedom and peace. As I ski I feel that I am flying and in total control of my life.

Football, the sport made for men
All of society looks upon football as a manly sport made for only the toughest of men, but it is really? I recently went to a byu football game, and wondered to myself if this game is for men then why are they wearing capris and always slapping each other on the bottom. Really, come on most people don't look at it that way. All they see is tough men with their fancy uniforms on being tough and hitting the other team. Do they really need to wear those tight paints, and shirts with the puffy sleeves? I guess most people would say that it is so the other team can't grap their pants or shirts and that the sleeves are puffy because all of the padding. But really why? We all look upon football as a manly sport with men tackling and hitting each other. But that brings me to another point. Guys tackling each other? If it wasn't looked upon as so tough and cool it is kind of gross. When their is a big pile up in the game all those guys are laying on top of each other. It might sound like I am trying to be gross, but I am not I am just stating the obvious. I love football I really do, but their are just some things about it that I do not understand.
I recently went to a play with my cousins and they were making fun of the main guy actor. They were calling him sissy, and a girl. That kind of mad me made because most people look down upon men who act and dance. They say that they aren't tough men and that most of them are gay. I am a dancer, and I have danced with many guys. I know for a fact that most of them are the toughest guys I know. It takes so much skill and disciplen to dance expecially for guys. So why then does the world look so highly on the football players and thier tight capris, but then shun any guy who is dancing and wearing tights. Really, people need to change their views on the world. It just drives me crazy on how people just think that only the toughest of men are football players. Sure they are tough but others work as hard or harder then them, but still the football players get all the fame and money.
I am not trying to be negative about football, or society in general. I am just think that football isn't the manliest sport there is. It is a fun active physical game, that is fun to watch, but there is more to it then being the toughest and most manly. Which brings me to another point. Why can't girls play football, and I mean not powderpuff football, but the real deal? But that is another blog for another day.

Paper or Plastic?
So I am really upset, because I wrote my blog and it disapeared so I have to write it all over again. So hopefully it will be better this time. So as I was saying in my blog that was earased was Why does it matter that at stores we have the choice of paper or plastic? Everytime I go to the store the bagger always askes would you like paper or plastic. Really does it matter. I could care less, just as long as the groceries get home safe. But I am sure that some people really need the choice, because it does really matter to them. They need the choice to have freedom and the ability to choose in their life. It is so kind of the grocery industry to burden us all the choice of paper or plastic.
If there was to only be one type of bag the best choice would probably be paper. There are so many more things that you can do with paper. You can burn it, draw on it, rip it up, or anything else your heart desires. Some people might say (like my mom) that there needs to be the option of paper and plastic. But if there was only one choice from the beginning would it really matter? The answere is No. It doesn't matter. And Everytime I went to the store I would have to hear the same old stupid question, "paper or plastic".

School Dances what a Joke
I have never really understood why people, especially girls go crazy when they here that a school dance is comings up. Really, is it that big of a deal. All you do is eat dinner then go dance, and most people don't even know how to dance. All they do is that side step motion. If you are going to go to a dance you should actually dance. Then weeks before the dance everyone is worried about who to ask or even if they will get asked. It is hilarious when it is a boys choice dance and all the girls are trying to come up with techniques that will get them asked to the dance. Like there is anything that they can do. Ultimately in the end the choice is the guys choice, and usually they aren't that bright when it comes to dances. Plus the price of photos at the dances are ridicules. Why would you want to pay that much for a picture of you and your date, and in some cases you probably don't want to be there with your date. It is a rip off. Plus in the end what do you do with those pictures look at them for a couple of days then put them away for your scrapbook that you never really get around to doing. I can understand buying pictures for prom or something, but most of the time do you really need them.
Another thing that is really sad is that most girls really get there hopes up to get asked to the dance. And when they don't they fill all bad about themselves and think that nobody likes them. Or you have the girls who are nice to everyone so all the weird kids ask them and in reality that have no desire whatsoever to go. As the homecoming dance is coming up I am sick of hearing about getting asked to the dance. It doesn't matter if you aren't asked. Just think of all the money that is being saved at your expense. In conlcusion school dances are way overrated. They either cause you to waste money on one night that doesn't matter, or sulk in your room because you weren't asked. I can only pray the no one will ask me.
